– National Children’s Integrated Safety Education Programme
It gives me immense pleasure and a profound sense of responsibility to present RailVidya – National Children’s Integrated Safety Education Programme, a comprehensive educational initiative of the All India Rail Safety Council (AIRSC). RailVidya has been envisioned as a national platform dedicated to equipping children and young people with practical safety knowledge, responsible values and essential life skills. Our purpose is not merely to teach safety rules, but to nurture a generation that understands risks, prevents avoidable harm, respects human life and contributes confidently to building a safer India.
Children are the most precious strength of our nation and the responsible citizens of tomorrow. The knowledge, habits and values developed during childhood remain influential throughout life. Safety education must therefore become an integral part of every child’s learning journey. When children are taught to recognise hazards, follow instructions, remain calm during emergencies and seek assistance from trusted adults or authorised professionals, they become better prepared to protect themselves and support the safety of others.
RailVidya adopts an integrated approach covering railway and metro safety, road and travel safety, school and home safety, fire and electrical safety, basic first-aid awareness, disaster preparedness, personal safety, digital responsibility, environmental awareness and the protection of public property. These subjects are presented through age-appropriate lessons, school-awareness programmes, demonstrations, posters, videos, quizzes, safety clubs and interactive activities. Every programme is designed to transform knowledge into responsible everyday behaviour.
Railway and metro safety hold particular importance within this mission. Children must understand that railway tracks, operational areas and electrical installations are never places for play, shortcuts, photography or experimentation. They must use authorised crossings and foot overbridges, remain behind platform safety lines, board and alight calmly, respect warning signals and follow the directions of railway, metro and security personnel. A few moments of patience, alertness and discipline can prevent an accident and protect a precious life.
RailVidya also recognises that safety education cannot remain confined to the classroom. A safety lesson becomes truly meaningful when it is practised at home, followed during every journey and shared throughout the community. Through our guiding principle, “One Child • One Family • One Safety Message,” we encourage every student to become a young safety ambassador. A single correct message carried from school to home can influence an entire family and create a wider culture of prevention.
Teachers and parents are indispensable partners in this national endeavour. Teachers translate safety principles into meaningful learning, while parents reinforce them through responsible conduct and personal example. Schools, families, railway and metro professionals, emergency responders, civil-society organisations and community leaders must work together to ensure that every child receives accurate, practical and compassionate safety guidance.
Our approach is founded upon positive education rather than fear. Children should be encouraged to observe carefully, think clearly and act responsibly without attempting dangerous interventions. In emergencies, their most important duties are to remain calm, move to safety, raise the alarm and immediately inform a teacher, parent, trusted adult or authorised official. First aid, CPR, electrical isolation, firefighting and rescue operations must be performed only by properly trained and authorised persons under safe conditions.
As India advances towards Viksit Bharat 2047, supported by the national aspirations of Make in India, Digital India, sustainable mobility, Net Zero 2070 and Vision Zero, safety education must remain central to our development. A truly developed nation is measured not only by the quality of its infrastructure and technology, but also by the care with which it protects its children and values every human life. Modern systems can strengthen safety, but lasting progress ultimately depends upon awareness, discipline and responsible human behaviour.
Through RailVidya, the All India Rail Safety Council renews its commitment to making safety knowledge accessible, engaging and relevant to children across India. We aspire to reach schools, teachers, parents and communities through educational resources, institutional partnerships, digital learning and sustained public-awareness programmes. Our vision is to ensure that every child has the knowledge and confidence to recognise danger, avoid unsafe actions, report hazards and make responsible decisions.
I invite educational institutions, teachers, parents, railway and metro organisations, professionals, volunteers and socially responsible partners to join us in strengthening this important mission. Together, let us build an enduring national safety culture in which awareness becomes habit, discipline becomes character and responsibility becomes a shared social value.
