When the closing warning begins, children should stop, step back and wait safely for the next train. Hands, feet, bags, clothing and other objects must remain clear of the doorway. No journey is so urgent that it should place a life at risk.
Never Block Closing Metro Doors
Metro train doors and platform screen doors are automatic safety systems designed to open and close according to controlled operating procedures. Attempting to hold, force or obstruct them can cause injury, damage equipment and delay train services. Children must understand that closing-door warnings require them to stop, step back and wait for the next train.
Before metro doors close, passengers are normally alerted through warning sounds, flashing lights or public announcements. Once this warning begins, children and accompanying adults must not rush forward. They should remain behind the designated safety line and allow the doors to close without interference.
Hands, feet, bags, toys, umbrellas and other objects must never be placed between closing doors. Children should not attempt to keep a door open for a family member or friend. Automatic doors may close with force, and an object caught between them can cause injury or create an operational emergency.
Passengers inside the train should move away from the doorway after boarding. Standing in the door area, leaning against doors or allowing bags and clothing to extend into the closing path is unsafe. Doorways must remain clear for efficient passenger movement and reliable door operation.
Platform screen doors require the same respect as train doors. Children must never lean against, touch repeatedly, climb, strike or attempt to open them. They should wait behind the marked boundary and approach only after both sets of doors have opened fully.
If a child enters the train while the parent or teacher remains on the platform—or the child remains behind while the adult boards—neither should attempt to force the doors. The child should remain calm and follow the previously agreed separation plan. Authorised metro staff should be informed immediately.
Families and school groups should decide in advance that nobody will rush through a closing door. If the entire group cannot board safely, everyone should step back and take the next train. Supervisors should complete a headcount before and after boarding and ensure that children remain together.
Children must never misuse the doors as part of a game, challenge, photograph or video. Deliberately obstructing doors can endanger passengers, interfere with train operations and damage valuable public infrastructure. Responsible digital behaviour includes rejecting any activity that compromises transport safety.
If clothing, a bag or another item becomes trapped, the child should not pull violently or place themselves in greater danger. They should call for help and alert an accompanying adult or authorised metro employee. Emergency communication equipment should be used only when genuinely necessary and according to official guidance.
Parents and teachers must model disciplined door behaviour. Adults who rush, hold doors or encourage children to enter at the final moment communicate a dangerous example. Waiting for the next train demonstrates that safety takes priority over convenience.
Modern metro systems rely on passengers cooperating with automated technology. As India expands its urban-transport infrastructure under Viksit Bharat 2047, respecting train doors and platform safety systems must become a national passenger habit.
