Dear Children,
Every child is precious, every dream is valuable and every life deserves protection. RailVidya – Children’s Railway and Metro Safety Education Programme, the educational wing of the All India Rail Safety Council (AIRSC), brings you this special message with care and responsibility: safety must become an essential part of everything you do—at home, at school, on the road, during travel, in public places and while using the internet.
Safety begins with awareness. It means recognising possible danger, following established rules, making thoughtful decisions and asking for help whenever a situation feels unsafe, confusing or uncomfortable. Being brave does not mean taking unnecessary risks or trying to solve every problem alone. True courage means moving away from danger, remaining calm and seeking assistance from a trusted adult or authorised professional.
When travelling by railway or metro, always remain with your parents, teachers, guardians or authorised group leaders. Walk carefully inside stations, use designated entry and exit routes and stand behind the platform safety line. Wait until the train stops completely, allow passengers to exit before boarding and enter the train in an orderly manner. Never run, push, play near platform edges, block closing doors or attempt to board or alight from a moving train.
Railway tracks are highly restricted operational areas and must never be used for walking, sitting, playing, cycling, taking photographs or as shortcuts. Always use foot overbridges, subways and authorised crossings. Never pass under or around a closed railway gate, and obey every warning bell, signal, barrier, announcement and instruction from authorised railway personnel. Overhead electrical wires, signalling equipment and other railway installations must never be touched or approached.
Mobile phones and headphones can cause dangerous distractions near railway tracks, level crossings, platforms, escalators and metro doors. Put away your device whenever your full attention is required, and remove headphones before approaching an authorised railway crossing. No phone call, message, photograph, video or online activity is more important than your life.
On roads, use pavements, pedestrian crossings, subways and foot overbridges wherever available. Stop, look, listen and think carefully before crossing. Obey traffic signals, wear a certified helmet on two-wheelers and fasten your seat belt during every vehicle journey. Never use a mobile phone while crossing a road, travel on the footboard of a vehicle or board and alight while it is moving.
At school, follow classroom, laboratory, playground, sports and school-bus safety instructions. Walk calmly through corridors and stairways, participate seriously in emergency drills and keep exits free from obstruction. Report damaged electrical equipment, unsafe structures, bullying, suspicious activity or any other hazard to a teacher or responsible adult. Supporting younger children and students with disabilities is also an important expression of safety and kindness.
At home, stay away from exposed wires, damaged appliances, cooking gas, medicines, chemicals, matches, lighters and sharp objects. Never touch electrical switches or appliances with wet hands. If you notice smoke, fire, a gas smell or another danger, move to a safe place and inform an adult immediately. Do not attempt electrical repairs, firefighting or hazardous rescue activities without trained adult assistance.
In the digital world, protect your passwords, personal photographs, live location and private family information. Never share an OTP, PIN or banking information with anyone. Avoid suspicious links, unknown friend requests, fraudulent offers and unsafe downloads. If you experience cyberbullying, threats, impersonation or inappropriate communication, do not remain silent—report it promptly to a trusted parent, teacher or guardian.
During an emergency, remain as calm as possible, move away from immediate danger and alert a responsible adult, authorised official or emergency service. Explain the location and nature of the emergency clearly. Never crowd an injured person, touch an electrical casualty, enter a fire-affected area or attempt a dangerous rescue meant for trained professionals. Seeking qualified assistance quickly is the safest and most responsible action.
Every child can become a Young Safety Ambassador by learning correct safety messages, practising them consistently and sharing them responsibly. Encourage your family and friends to follow railway, metro, road, home, school and digital-safety rules. Protect public property, respect safety personnel, care for the environment and lead others through your positive example. One accurate message shared at the right moment may prevent an accident and save a life.
As India advances towards Viksit Bharat 2047, the nation needs informed, disciplined, compassionate and responsible young citizens. Modern infrastructure and advanced technology become truly meaningful only when they protect human life and are used responsibly. Every safe decision you make strengthens your family, supports your community and contributes to a safer and more developed India.
Dear children, your safety is not only the responsibility of your parents, teachers or authorities—it is also a responsibility you gradually learn to share. Stay alert, respect rules, think before you act and never hesitate to seek help. Your life is irreplaceable, your future is important and your dreams deserve to be protected.
