LEARN ONE SAFETY MESSAGE • SHARE IT WITH YOUR FAMILY • PRACTISE IT EVERY DAY • PROTECT LIVES TOGETHER

Dear Students,

Every child has the power to make a family safer. One Child • One Family • One Safety Message is a student-led awareness initiative of RailVidya – Children’s Railway and Metro Safety Education Programme, the educational wing of the All India Rail Safety Council (AIRSC). The initiative encourages each student to learn at least one important safety message, share it with family members and inspire everyone at home to practise safe and responsible behaviour.

Safety education becomes more powerful when it travels from the classroom into the home. A simple message shared by you can remind parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and relatives to remain alert and avoid unsafe actions. Your words may encourage someone to use an authorised crossing, stand behind a platform safety line, wear a helmet, fasten a seat belt, avoid mobile-phone distraction or follow an emergency instruction. One timely reminder can prevent an accident and protect a precious life.

Begin by selecting one safety message that is clear, practical and relevant to your family. You might say, “Never walk or play on railway tracks,” “Never cross under or around a closed railway gate,” “Always stand behind the platform safety line,” or “Never board or leave a moving train.” Explain why the rule matters and encourage every member of your family to make it part of their normal travel behaviour.

When using metro services, remind your family to allow passengers to exit before boarding, mind the gap between the train and platform, remain clear of closing doors and use escalators, lifts and stairways carefully. Encourage younger children to remain close to their parents or guardians and ask everyone to follow official signs, announcements and instructions from authorised personnel.

Your safety message can also address road and travel risks. Remind family members to use pavements and pedestrian crossings, obey traffic signals, wear approved helmets, fasten seat belts and avoid using mobile phones while driving or crossing roads. Encourage everyone to plan journeys carefully, remain patient in crowded places and never choose a dangerous shortcut simply to save time.

Safety begins at home as well. You can share messages about avoiding exposed electrical wires, keeping away from fire and hot surfaces, handling medicines and chemicals only with adult supervision and keeping passages and exits clear. You may also discuss emergency contact numbers, basic first-aid awareness, internet safety and the importance of never sharing personal information with strangers.

Choose a suitable time to discuss your safety message—perhaps during a family meal, before a journey or as part of a weekly family safety conversation. Speak politely, use simple words and encourage everyone to participate. Ask each family member to repeat the message, explain its importance and promise to follow it. Safety should be shared through care and understanding, not fear.

You can make the initiative more meaningful by creating a small poster, safety card, drawing or family pledge and displaying it in a visible place at home. Each week or month, select a new message and discuss it together. In this way, one message can grow into many responsible habits, and your home can become a continuous centre of safety learning.

As a student, you are not only a learner—you can also be a Young Safety Ambassador. By practising what you teach, you demonstrate honesty, leadership and responsibility. When your family sees you following rules, remaining alert and caring for others, they are more likely to understand that safety is a shared duty.

One child can educate one family. One family can influence one neighbourhood. One neighbourhood can inspire an entire community. When children across India carry accurate safety messages from their schools into their homes, they create a nationwide movement for accident prevention and responsible citizenship.

Your voice is important, your example is powerful and your safety message can save a life. Learn carefully, speak confidently and practise consistently. Together, we can ensure that safety becomes a habit in every home and a lifelong responsibility for every citizen.
